So my first week of living in the apartment in Milan and going to Uni and weekend away has all ended. It is early Monday morning so i thought i should fill you all in on my first week here, and wowie i cant believe how much stuff i have done already!!!!
It started last saturday - the 25th when i moved into my apartment. It is only a block from central station - best location ever! I have 5 roommates whom i love to bits already! We have three bedrooms which have two single beds in them, a desk, two cupboards and a lot of space which is so good as we tend to have a lot of stuff!! Then we have a living area which has a table that seats 6 of us, a big couch, a bookshelf and a little table. It is a really good space and we all tend to chill out in it together. then we have a kitchen that also has a table in it and a lot of space - our fridge really isnt big enough to fit 6 peoples stuff in tho! and finally we have two bathrooms which is a must with 6 girls in one apartment!!! I will go around and take some pics of it all for you and create an apartment blog soon!
So i shall go through the week for you (and for my records so i dont forget what i did!)
Saturday: arrived in the afternoon and unpacked and met the girls - was feeling super homesick for my parents, it felt so odd to not be with them and i was missing them already. But we all decided to head out to a club that night, so everyone that was keen to go came to our apartment - 9 of us in total went out. We went to Papaya Beach Club which was litterly in the middle of a forrest!!! it was so odd, it was outside and it was set up more like a festival with all different stages and bars and areas with different music - very cool though. We all danced all night. I ordered one drink and got very drunk - they put in so much alcohol into one drink it is actually scary! i didnt realise just how much. At home you get a shot in a drink - here i ordered a red bull and vodka and it was about a 700ml glass and there was 3/4 vodka 1/4 redbull!!!! CRAZY! so that takes me through to:
Sunday: hungover :( yuk yuk yuk! I was so sick :( it was horrible! I spent all day curled up on the couch hating feeling so sick, vowing never to drink again! Paris (one of my roommates) was a sweetie though - she put cold towels on me, gave me cold water and cooked for me :)
Monday: First day of Uni! Got the train to the building we were in. Uni is different here, its not all on one campus but buildings spread over a bunch of blocks - so some days were in one building on just a regular street then other days were in another one a few blocks away. We had introduction to the course and met all our lecturers and tutors and had a tour of Milan and the Uni and a free lunch that was huge!!! Then that evening i went with my parents to get a FAN! IT IS SO HOT HERE I CANT SLEEP AT ALL!!!! it is actually around 28 degrees at night - all night! and there are thousands of mozzies here so we cant have any windows open and WE DONT HAVE AIRCON!!!!! ahhhhhhh, so my first night i did not sleep AT ALL!!!
My amazing parents bought me a fan which changed my life - i was able to sleep which was amazing :)
Tuesday: Uni all day - learning about the European Union and Tourism - was actually super interesting - i learnt so much that i was unaware of with the EU and Economics and Law within Italy.Then in the afternoon we went shopping along the Duomo and got some pretty clothes :)
Wednesday: Feild trip with uni to Lake Como - the hometown of Mr Cloony hehe. We went and visited Villa D'Este which is the number one luxury hotel in the world! Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie wanted to get married there! It was so amazing, so beautiful! We had the PR manager give us a talk and show around - interestingly they dont do any advertising, just PR because they believe that luxury shouldnt have to be advertised.
Then we had lunch at a cute restaurant right along the lake's edge and i had the most amazing pasta of my life!!!! it was ahhhhmazing!
Then we went to Villa Erba which is a convention centre and castle on the one grounds that hosts all kinds of events - pretty much any kind you can think of - the parliment congress is held there every year. It was so beautiful - the castle was ancient!
Then that night we got back and there was a storm - and our power went out - so we sat around with mass amounts of candles everywhere...all our food in the fridge went off and poor Rachel (roommate) got sick from eating some of it :(
Thursday: Had uni all day - learnt about SMEs and Industrial clusters and the EU again. the SMEs was so interesting and our lecturer is so cute! he says the funniest stuff - Hannah (roommate) asked him to be open to us asking questions and he said 'oh of course - please squeeze me' hahaha. The EU lecture was difficult to understand- got a bit tricky!!!
That night i went out and had a great night with mum and dad as it was there last night here in Milan, we have apperitivo's which were so yum!!!
Friday: Had a public holiday so 13 of us went away for the weekend to the Cinque Terre!! Got the train there which is 3 hours from Milan and we stayed in La Spezia which is only a few Ks from the Cinque Terre. Friday we just arrived and walked around the town a bit and shopped at some cute markets and sunbaked by the water - La Spezia is a fishing town. That night we went out to a little bar by the hotel and had some drinks.
Saturday: Spent the day wondering around the towns. Walked from the first town to the second town which is lovers lane and it is amazing!!! People put locks all along the path to lock their love and they throw away the key - i locked mine and Chris's love there :) and i also put a lock there for my cousin who passed away on the weekend at home in Perth :( so it felt nice to be able to feel connected to my family. That avo it rained :( but we sunbaked anyway! Monterosso is such a beautiful town. We had dinner at a beautiful little resturant and had such good food!!! Then a few of us stayed and had a drink by the ocean and just had really good talks and tones of laughing!!!
Sunday: Paris, Rachel and I all stayed longer than everyone else - we got the train home at 7pm so we had a whole other day there and it was sunny!!!! We sunbaked all day on the beach - it was amazing, such a great day. the water was so refreshing and cold and the beach was full of so many interesting things to look at. I am now a bit burnt....opps!!!!
So had an amazing weekend with amazing people in a truly amazing place!!!!
Off to uni again today :)
