So i have not done many blogs at all! SORRY!!!!! It has been super busy here and so much stuff happening so i'd better fill you in! This post is from the time i spent with my parents in Milan when i first arrived.
We got here on the 20th of June and spent the week together until i moved into my apartment.
We arrived into Milan airport super early (around 6am) and had to navigate our way on the train to central station. I'll admit i was pretty unsure about being in a new country not having a clue about the language or anything and i did feel a bit scared (so many stories about stuff being stolen!)
I had my first italian coffee at a little cafe at the airport almost as soon as we got off the plane with mum...it was AMAZING! They do things differently here - they have a long bar where you order your coffee then you stand there drinking it, most people never sit down. So we did that then headed on the train.
Got to central and wow i was so worried about so many people and being with all my stuff, but we were totally fine. Walked out of central and was hit by how beautiful the city is - couldnt actually believe i was in Milan.
We stayed in an apartment that was pretty big and nice and cool with the prettiest view outside of all these little cafes and resturants lining the streets.
During the week with mum and dad we went to the Duomo (many many times), we went up to the roof as well which was absolutely incredible. its so unfathomable to be the history of everything here.
We did a hop on hop off bus tour around the city which was super good - learnt so many interesting facts and got to figure out exactly where we were in the gist of things.
Mum and I went to La Scala and saw Romeo and Juliet .... amazing! it is so beautiful and so pretty and so ancient and so pretty in there! then there were the opera singers who voices were so powerful and so talented! Had such a fun night with mum getting to feel a little bit special like we entered into another world!
We also had an aperitivo which is another really cool thing they do here in Milan. What it is, is everynight from around 6pm all the bars put trays and trays of all kinds of foods up on the bar and when you order a drink (any kind) you get to eat as much of the food you want for free! They have salads, vegetables and dip, little sandwiches, nuts and chips, massive pizzas cut into small squares - it goes on and on. So i do that often and have it as my dinner cause its so cheap!!!
Had the best time with my parents - it was actually really hard to leave them - i started missing them before i even left them!
Only one horrible thing that has happened so far in Milan....We were walking to go to the hop on hop off bus in the morning, we crossed the road and heard this loud crunching noise behind us. turned and saw a bus up on the curb..then saw that a man who was on a vesper had been hit. Raced over and Mum started helping the man who was lying sideways on the ground with one leg all ripped open and bones sicking out :( it was so horrible, the worst thing ive seen in such a long time. He was ok, and the ambulance arrived and helped him but it made me feel so sick and sad and upset for a few days :(
BUT - other than that, my time with my parents here was really special. We got along so well and laughed so much, walked a TON, and really had an amazing time with each other. im so lucky that they were here so i could have the chance to travel with them.
Ill post some pictures below from the week with them :) Lots of Love to everyone xoxox
